Music Windsor-Essex aims to define and execute a regional music strategy that will led to sustainable economic prosperity and a more interconnected music ecosystem in Windsor-Essex. Launched in 2017, Music Windsor-Essex is led by the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation and is comprised of a volunteer advisory council of stakeholders with deep professional ties to the local music sector. The council is tasked with identifying regional initiatives and strategically aligning resources to further four economic development targets: advocacy, communication, education and investment.
Stemming from my passion for independent music and experience reporting on local arts and culture, I co-chaired the Music Windsor-Essex advisory council from 2016-2018. During this time, I helped author a music strategy report, prepared council governance documents, hosted a 40-person industry symposium with local stakeholders and organized professional development events for music workers, including a weekend Artist Entrepreneur Bootcamp facilitated by Canada’s Music Incubator and Music Canada. Through a partnership with the JUNO Awards 2019 host city committee, I helped organize a Host City Music Exchange event in Windsor on February 28, 2019. Musicians from Windsor and London, Ont. participated in a live music concert, industry panel discussion and high school presentation, which drew approximately 500 people. It also afforded Windsor bands the opportunity and exposure to play JUNO week music showcases in London.
